MTI Home Video will release the horror film, URBAN GHOST STORY, on VHS and DVD April 27, 2004. Set in the flats of Scotland, this haunting feature explores how poltergeists possess a young girl's mind after a horrific car accident.

After a car accident, Lizzie lies dead on the roadside, slowly she is taken into the light, but is pulled back to earth when she is revived by her doctors. She feels certain that during the 184 seconds that she lay dead, something latched on to her and came back into her world. The nightmares and visions that follow only crystallize her belief that she should have died in the crash. At first the disturbances start merely as tapping and bad smells, but soon the activity escalates. Lizzie seems to be the focus, but according to others, she’s only playing games for attention.

Boasting huge extras, the digitally mastered DVD will include a 16:9 Widescreen Presentation, 5.1 Stereo Surround Sound, 3 Documentaries, 2 Audio Commentaries, Deleted Scenes, Musical Score, Photo Gallery, Interactive Menus, Scene Selection, Cast Biographies, Optional Spanish Subtitles, and Trailers.

‘GENUINE NERD’ documentary to debut at Frightvision

Ravenna, OH: Lurid Entertainment has announced that they will be screening GENUINE NERD—Wayne Alan Harold’s documentary on cult star Toby Radloff (AMERICAN SPLENDOR, KILLER NERD, TOWNIES)—at this April’s Frightvision convention in Cleveland, Ohio. The film will be screened at Frightvision on Friday, April 2 as part of Tempe Entertainment’s Friday Movie Night. Radloff and Harold will both be on hand to introduce the film.

GENUINE NERD documents the life and times of Cleveland’s own Toby Radloff, the self-described "Genuine Nerd" who first received national attention when he was featured in a number of comedy segments on MTV's WEEK IN ROCK in the late 80s and early 90s. Radloff went on to appear in the cult classics KILLER NERD, BRIDE OF KILLER NERD and TOWNIES. Toby also appeared as "himself" in last year’s big screen AMERICAN SPLENDOR, which chronicled the life of Toby’s friend and co-worker, underground comics legend Harvey Pekar. SPLENDOR won the Grand Jury Prize at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and won a special award at Cannes.

GENUINE NERD features an extensive, often hilarious sit-down interview with Radloff, intercut with Toby’s nerdy observations on life, love and (of course) his obsession with White Castle hamburgers.

Producer/Director Wayne Alan Harold is Toby’s primary collaborator, having directed him in the KILLER NERD films, TOWNIES and the upcoming ABERRATION BOULEVARD. "Toby is my ‘Divine’," says Harold, referring to filmmaker John Waters’ longtime muse. "I can’t imagine making a flick without him. I also figured that it was time to document his amazing life in one place."

Radloff adds the following: "I'm still a government employee full time, but I love to be in the spotlight once in a while—whether I'm the "Genuine Nerd" or the "Killer Nerd!""

GENUINE NERD will be released on DVD later this year.

Sideshow Cinema is about to begin shooting their newest movie, a political satire entitled "Democrazy".

Of the film, Director Mike Legge says, "Doesn't matter how the election goes, folks. We'll always end up with a purchased politician ready to go fetch for the corporate pillagers who really run the country. So, let's visit a fantasy country. A country that goes one step beyond...

"I've already broken two ribs just trying to start this movie. Is someone trying to stop me? Someone from our "shadow government'? Some goon defending the Patriot Act? Someone with good taste? Who can say?"

OBITUARIES from the Astounding Space Monster Newsletter

Paula Raymond

B-movie leading lady Paula Raymond has died from respiratory ailments. She was 79. Raymond may be best remembered for her roles in such science fiction and horror films as "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms," "Hand of Death" and "Blood of Dracula's Castle." Born in San Francisco, Raymond made her 1938 film debut as a child in "Keep Smiling." She attended Hollywood High School and completed her education in San Francisco before returning to Hollywood in the mid-1940s to take up a film career. Among her early film credits were roles in "Rusty Leads the Way," "Blondie's Secret," "Crisis," opposite Cary Grant, and "Devil's Doorway," with Robert Taylor. She worked steadily throughout the 1950s, appearing in such "A"-budget films as "The Tall Target," "The Story of Three Loves" and "King Richard and the Crusaders," in which she played Queen Berengeria. In 1962, Raymond was sidelined by a serious car crash, which required extensive facial reconstruction. Miraculously, she recovered her strength and beauty and returned to films within a year. She also worked prolifically in television, appearing in such programs as "Yancy Derringer," "Perry Mason," "The Rough Riders," "77 Sunset Strip," "Bourbon Street Beat," "Cheyenne," "Hawaiian Eye," "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and many others.

Lynn Cartwright

Actress Lynn Cartwright has died of illnesses related to dementia. She had also recently suffered a hip fracture. She was 76. Cartwright had small roles in a handful of B pictures in the 1950s, including several that were scripted by her husband, the late actor Leo Gordon. These include "Black Patch," "The Cry Baby Killer" and "The Wasp Woman," the latter two produced by Roger Corman. (A commercial promotion for "The Cry Baby Killer" was a "Prettiest Carhop Contest"; local theaters were encouraged to conduct a contest to find a carhop as lovely as the one played by Cartwright in the picture.) She also had a small part as a Venusian maiden in the cult classic "Queen of Outer Space," starring Zsa Zsa Gabor. She may be best known to contemporary audiences for her part in "A League of Their Own," in which she played an older version of Geena Davis' character, Dottie Hinson, a women's league baseball player. Cartwright's television credits include appearances on such programs as "Maverick," "Adam-12," "Little House on the Prairie" and "Dynasty."
