There is a crap-load of vampire fiction out there. You got vampires in the city, in the woods, in the future, and a butt-load in the past. Oh, they love the past. Vampires can be gothic, domestic homemakers, businessmen, military soldiers, royalty, drug addicts, rock stars, homeless, bi-sexual goth teen-agers. I could go on and on, but…

I don't know what it is? What is the attraction to experiencing a subculture of people having sex and sucking blood through skin…oh, never mind.

Come The Night threw me for a loop. It had me wondering where the hell the story was going with every page I turned. It did take place in the past, but it didn't seem like it was in the past. It read more like a Shakespearian play, focusing on characters dealing with duality and family ties.

Set at Ireland in 1095, Lazarus Conlon lives with his New Breed Tribe of vampires. As apposed to the Dark Breed, these vampires are good guys, feeding on animals and not humans. In fact, they are so good; they live in peace with a band of Trackers who kill vampires.

Lazarus has the inside skinny with the Trackers. He is deeply in love with a beautiful female Tracker named Neomina, and it is mutual. There are no head games. He doesn't give her goofy looks, sending her in a trance and on her knees with her mouth open and ready to take him. This is love. But they are both so dedicated to their roots that they are unable to get married.

Any who- Evil is on the rise, looming over Lazarus's shoulder. But he can't figure out what it is. It turns out to be a shell of a man named Percival who…well, there is this complex back story of family that I would have to reveal…so basically he wants Lazarus dead.
