"Safe at Home" is an e-novella about a couple fresh in their twenties getting a place of their own. Jim and his girlfriend, Monica, are working dead-end, fast food jobs to pay the rent, muddling though college, and establishing a normal life for themselves. Things are great and secure until someone is found dead in the apartment building. The murder not only threatens Jim's security but his relationship with Monica.

Written in 1st person (Jim), C. Dennis Moore executes a tight story about starting life and dealing with the threats of the real world.

What impresses me the most about this short work of psychological horror is how it seeps under my skin. Paranoia runs so strong in Jim, it invades the reader's minds as well. The themes and the day-to-day rituals are so common that the story stuck with me (more like invaded me), making me wonder about the dark spots in my apartment building.

"Safe at Home" also comes with a few extras. Moore supplies a small back-story, giving us a small history of the making of the novella. He also supplies the first quarter of a script: the original conception of "Safe at Home". The extras are interesting, as a side note. Moore (at the time he wrote the script) over-writes which makes me agree that he should of written "Safe at Home" in prose.

For a suspenseful ride into the life of the young every-man, "Safe at Home" will definitely satisfy with entertainment and fill you with dread.
