Novella

In 2246, women run the world since all the men died out from the Ghalen Plague. But all is not lost for man, they are being bred and sold for woman to use as they will, mostly obedient husbands.

Drennin, a man, is married to Laurana, a corporate bigwig, but for the last few years, their romance has gone south. Laurana, not giving a crap, passes Drennin to her sister La Tavia. Drennin and La Tavia fall in love but they can never be completely together because of Laurana's hold over him, kinda like freeing Northern Ireland.

Fed up and tired of being treated like a caged animal, Drennin, with La Tavia's help, plots an escape and strikes against Laurana, hoping to live a perfect and free life with La Tavia.

Does Drennin escape?

Is heaven with La Tavia there at the end?

"Sometime Women Are So Cold" is a clever mesh of genres: sci-fi and noir. There are simple descriptive verse of the possible future, but Fulbright never weighs the novella down with them. Instead he uses it to push the story forward: a need to know basis if you will.

The noir aspect rests in the character and plotting. Drennin is the sucker guy trying to fulfill a dream. Laurana is the devilish and controlling woman holding him down. La Tavia could be either the femme fatale who is the woman he thinks she is or a cold-blooded woman playing with his emotions.

There is awesome action sequence at the end where Drennin escapes and fights off the authorities.

But the best part is the last few pages. Fulbright plays with the reader's expectations and the rules of love.

"Sometimes Woman Are so Cold" is an intelligent, entertaining, and cool novella that explores the sexes.
