Jimmy - Brian Paulin

Lindsy - Linda Costa

Like Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney in so many musicals from the 1950, Brian Paulin and Rich George are caught between a rock and a hard place. With the thought of loosing his home, Brian's character Jimmy realizes it's time to put on a show. Only there's no singing and dancing in DEAD GIRL ON FILM, these kids are putting on a snuff film.

Having raved about Brian Paulin's last release, AT DAWN THEY SLEEP, I was ready for another gritty tale of Religion and Vampires with his latest effort, DEAD GIRL ON FILM. Can you imagine my surprise when I found out that DEAD GIRL had nothing to do about vampires and everything to do with old fashioned murder? The nerve of some people, eh? ;)

As a filmmaker myself, I've long been intrigued about the ideas and philosophies behind the snuff film. So much so that over the past 2 years I've been researching the stories behind the Urban Legend for a documentary I hope to shoot soon. To this date, no actual snuff films have been marked by the U.S. Federal Government, at least none they are talking about. Denial is all the rage with the FBI. A few years back I remember hearing on the radio that two Germans who were arrested for making a snuff film using a prostitute. Other than that one mention, I heard nothing else about it. If it weren't that this was NPR, I would have dismissed the story as a foolish deejay prank.

Does the snuff film truly exist? If they do, no one is talking. But it makes you wonder, who's worse, the murderer who tapes the crime or the sicko who gets his jollies from watching such trash?

Recent films, such as Joel Shumacher's 8MM, have tried to explore the possible underground world that might surround the snuff film, but none have gone far enough across the into this world of darkness and perversion. None have crossed the line into the world of the taboo, which limits the emotional resonance of your film since your dealing with such a powerful subject. The viewer sees things through the eyes of a neutral third party; someone indirectly involved who has no real emotional connection to the material.

DEAD GIRL ON FILM gives you the world of the snuff filmmaker. It's dirty, bleak, drug-infested, white trash hell. There are those that love the quick cash and those that can't live with themselves and the atrocities they've committed. All of which pay high prices for their deeds.

DEAD GIRL OF FILM takes the chances Hollywood films are afraid to. It reveals filth for what it is and delivers the hardcore truth. I hope that if you ever see it on the rental shelves, you pick up this movie of 8MM. It's one helluva lot better.
