Remember the heyday of Misty Mundae? Every Seduction Cinema title seemed to the word "erotic" worked in someplace. I remember Seduction founder Mike Raso introducing me to Ward Bolt during a convention appearance. Debbie Rochon walked up to the table unnoticed and asked for "anything with the word 'erotic' in the title." It was funny. Everyone laughed. You had to be there.

At the start of this decade, Seduction Cinema seemed to be releasing a new Misty video every other week. They could have actually released them that quickly, but someone had the bright idea of stockpiling her movies for a rainy day, which eventually came when Erin Brown opted to drop out of the Misty "character" and softcore in general. THE EROTIC DIARY OF MISTY MUNDAE is a production that was made in 2002 but has sat on the shelf until the time of this writing (August 2007). Is a 5-year old softcore production really worth the wait?

In this case, yes. Unlike the newer Seduction releases, EROTIC DIARY, is actually erotic. Pound for pound, minute for minute, it's also the steamiest movie the company has released in years even thought it's apparent that it could have been more so due to a few obviously bad editing choices where the editor cuts to match the musical cues.

Fans of these films will remember that during this paticular era Misty was billed as a sort of heir to Joe Sarno's Inga character (never more apparent then in THE SEDUCTION OF MISTY MUNDAE). Seduction Cinema even went so far as to put Misty's picture on a number of Sarno releases from the company's Retro line. EROTIC DIARY plays like s Sarno film directed by another featured Retro-Seduction director Nick Phillips.

Like many of Phillips arthouse/grindhouse sexploitation flicks, EROTIC DIARY is told sans dialog and with only enough voiceover narration to link the sexual interludes together. Misty walks through a scenic wooded area with the title diary and records her lascivious thoughts. The DVD jewel case naively tells us that Misty is a college co-ed, but most of Misty's early appeal came from her youthful appearance which some fans liked to attribute to her being underage (although never the case), which is probably why Misty was often photographed in short schoolgirl outfits.

All my favorite Seduction cuties are present and accounted, and each display the characteristics that made them so enjoyable to watch (and exactly why some are now missed). Of course there's Misty's youthful sex appeal, but there's also Ruby LaRocca's carnal sexualty and Darian Caine's vivacious energy. Not to mention A.J. Kahn's elegance and Anoushka's mind-blowing figure. Today, only Caine and Kahn still actively work for the company.

The loose plot details Mundae's attraction to Caine, and the two have always displayed great chemistry, but never more so then here. Their couplings have never seemed more natural and spontaneous as one particular scene involving a pillow fight. With pillows primed for launch, both women have those ear-to-ear grins found on little girls about to enjoy all the heaven that only a new lollipop can deliver. As they exchange glances, it feels like we've caught a stolen moment, not so much between two lovers, but between two dear friends who know they are about to enjoy truly naughty fun.

All the vignettes are extremely stylized and reminiscent of Andrew Blake's glamorous hardcore material. As the shots jump back and forth between various filmic styles and formats, it can be a little disorienting, but viewers quickly become acclimated to the frantic visual pace as it reflects the lustfulness of the activities depicted. It turns out that John Fedele is just as good a director of photography as he is a comedic actor.

Viewers might be upset at the inclusion of a scene from DR. JECKYL AND MISTRESS HYDE but it fits due to its stylized nature. It also reminds us why Julian Wells is so missed - that woman possessed raw sexuality and intelligence, an incendiary combination.

Longtime fans of Misty Mundae won't be disappointed as they'll get exactly what they're looking for in this movie - more Misty. Fans of Seduction Cinema will get that magic that's been missing in recent releases. Me, I get to watch the great chemistry between the ladies.

The dvd release contains a behind the scenes featurette detailing the production for one of the vignettes.
