As many of you know by now, I'm a huge softy when it comes to charity events. I received this note from long time supporter David Latt, some of you might know of him as the director of JANE WHITE IS SICK AND TWISTED, others of you might remember him as one of the men responsible for the sadly missed First Rites line of videos at Hollywood Video. Do me a favor please, if you send any Toys for Tots, please be sure to let 'em know that Allen from B-Indi sent you. Thanks!

Dear Family & Friends:
Happy Holidays, Everyone!!!

We are again hosting a Toys For Tots Drive this year (last year we received over a 1,000 toys!!!) - and this year it's real easy to contribute: If you have any kind of toy (big or small) just send it by mail or drop it off to my office before November 30th at 3:00pm. That's it. No guilt. Really.

Please send your unwrapped toy to:

David Latt
c/o The Asylum
6671 Sunset Blvd., Bldg. 1593
Hollywood, CA. 90028

Love,
David, Kim & Audrey Latt

P.S.: The person that supplies us with the MOST toys will receive 5 DVDs from The Asylum film library!!!

P.P.S: Feel free to pass this email along to your friends.

ABOUT TOYS FOR TOTS:

MISSION: The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

GOAL: The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help needy children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of our nation's most valuable natural resource - our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; to contribute to better communities in the future.

TIPS: Try to avoid battery operated gifts. Try to avoid really big presents (it's difficult to explain to a child why one receives a HUGE stuffed animal, while another receives only a small doll). Books are great!

Manhattan’s Pioneer Theater will host a series of theatrical screenings featuring the amusing and erotic movie spoofs of ei Independent Cinema, a New Jersey film production studio that is gaining an international reputation and audience.

The “Seduction Cinema” film series begins on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 9:30 p.m. with the company’s SpiderBabe, a sexy spoof of Spider-man, starring ei Cinema sensation Misty Mundae. A different ei Cinema film will be screened on the third Wednesday of each month. On December 17, it will be Lord of the G-Strings, a spoof of Lord of the Rings.

The first 50 people to purchase tickets for SpiderBabe on Nov. 19 will be invited to attend a post-screening party at The Den of Cin, around the corner from the theater, where the stars of the movie will be present.

“Theatrical screenings are something new for us,” said Michael L. Raso, president of ei Independent Cinema, whose company has produced more than 30 films and in the past five years, all of them released directly to home video. “We’re looking forward to creating a buzz, particularly in a part of the city - lower Manhattan - where artists, filmmakers and students are the potential audience.”

The Pioneer Theater has already screened an ei Cinema horror film, Screaming Dead, which was written and directed by horror-genre veteran Brett Piper, will be released to home video in early 2004. The October screening of the movie at the Pioneer Theater attracted a sell-out crowd at the theater.

“If the turnout for Screaming Dead is an indication of the drawing power of ei Cinema films, the Seduction Cinema series should be a success,” said Matthew Seig, general manager of the Pioneer Theater. “Their movies are fun and risqué, which is a great combination.”

Over a year after it was originally announced on B-Independent.com's threads, Leif Jonker's remastered, definitive version of his underground vampire splatter movie DARKNESS is finally nearing completion. The 13th DREAM ENTERTAINMENT production group has moved from it's hometown of Wichita, KS to Wilmington N. Carolina to join forces with EVOLUTION ENTERTAINMENT EAST -- a new independent production entity founded by veteran make-up artist Rick Pour known for his work on Stephen King's THE NIGHT FLYER, Ang Lee's RIDE WITH THE DEVIL and many others. The collaboration with EVOLUTION is allowing Leif Jonker to re-transfer the original film negative of DARKNESS and perform a complete, final director's edit to be released on a brand new, definitive Special Edition DVD next year in time for it's 10th Anniversary. (Though DARKNESS was copyrighted in 1992, and slated for release in 1993, and therefore has been noted all over the web as having come out in 1993, due to delays at the films original U.S. distributors video duplicators, complicated even more so by the huge earthquake that hit Los Angeles in January of 1994 resulting in the dubbing master for the film being lost, the release copies of the film didn't get out until March of 1994 -- making next year the actual 10th Anniversary of the film's original release.)

13th DREAM and EVOLUTION are also developing a number of film projects with hopes of beginning production early next year including a sequel and prequel to DARKNESS tentatively entitled DARKNESS 2: VAMPIRE FEROX and DARKNESS 3: VAMPIRE APOCALYPSE.

Please check out the brand new app. 2 min. promo-trailer for the upcoming dvd edition of DARKNESS: THE VAMPIRE VERSION as well as see it's new promo-arts and artworks for it's sequels at www.13thdream.com. WARNING: This unrated preview contains scenes of graphic horror not recommended for pre-teen audiences.

From Mark Pirro:

It's FINISHED. Rectuma is done...technically. Sergio Bandera is doing the Dolby 5.1 mix, but for all intents and purposes, it is finito! I'm writing this month's newsletter a little early because I have the premiere date set and wanted to post it as soon as possible. The screening will be Thursday, December 4th. Contact us via email if you want the time and location. I thought it best not to post that information here, since one can never be sure who reads these newsletters and I want to make sure that we don't have too many crashers. The room holds 140 people and I have no doubt we will fill it. We may even line up a 2nd screening later that evening if absolutely necessary. There will be a reception following the first screening. And in case you're wondering...yes...just like my last movie's premiere- Color-Blinded...the event costs more than the movie itself! December 4th will come pretty fast, so there's still a lot to do regarding promotions and preparations. I'll be sending out official invitations around the first week of this month. If any of you are not on our invite list, but would like an invitation, let me know. If we like you, maybe we'll send you one. Even if you can't attend, you can sell the invitation on Ebay someday.

We've already heard from a few distribution companies who have expressed interest in Rectuma. That's nice, but I'm not rushing into anything. We'll have our premiere and see how things go with it, then possibly make a decision on distribution. There's a slight chance that we can get a limited theatrical run with this movie. I don't know if that's something I will take seriously, but it's been suggested. Today, one can make a decent transfer from digital video to film. We've come a long way from the early days of Stupid 8...er uhh I mean Super 8.

OBITUARIES from the Astounding Space Monster Newsletter

Fay Helm

One of the last players to survive from Universal Studios? "Golden Age," actress Fay Helm, has died. She was 94. Helm appeared in dozens of films during the 1930s and '40s, often cast as a victim in B movie thrillers. One memorable example is her part as Jenny Williams, the woman bitten by werewolf Bela Lugosi -- who later passes his curse onto Lon Chaney -- in the Universal classic, "The Wolf Man." Also for Universal, she appeared in such shockers as "Captive Wild Woman" with John Carradine, "Calling Dr. Death" with Lon Chaney and "Night Monster" with Bela Lugosi and Lionel Atwill. Other notable parts include the title role in the classic film noir, "Phantom Lady," directed by Robert Siodmak, and the comic-thriller "One Body Too Many" with Lugosi, Jack Haley and Jean Parker. Her final film was 1946's "That Brennan Girl."

Jack Elam

Character actor Jack Elam, who had one of the most distinctive and ubiquitous faces in Western film history, and whose career spanned six decades, has died at 84. Elam's gravelly voice and sinister demeanor (made more unsettling by his sightless, wayward right eye, injured in a boyhood fight) won him numerous roles in "A" and "B" Western features and myriad television programs including "Ride Clear of Diablo," "The Man from Laramie," "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral," "Wichita," "The Comancheros" and "Rio Lobo." Later in his career, he took on parts that played his crusty image as a leering gunman or grizzled sidekick for laughs. He worked extensively in episodic television, appearing in "The Dakotas," "Gunsmoke," "Bonanza," "The Rebel," "The Rifleman," "Zane Grey Theater" and many others. Beyond the Western genre, he appeared in such films as "Kiss Me Deadly," "The Girl in Lover's Lane" and "Baby Face Nelson." Elam worked as a studio accountant before winning his first acting assignment in 1949.

Victoria Horne

Actress Victoria Horne, the daughter of director James W. Horne and the widow of character actor Jack Oakie, has died of natural causes. She was 82. B-movie fans will recognize Horne from roles in The Basil Rathbone/Sherlock Holmes entry "The Scarlet Claw," the serial "Secret Agent X-9," "Murder in the Blue Room" and "Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff." She also appeared in such "A" features as "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" and "Harvey." Her final screen appearance was 1953's "Affair With A Stranger."

Peter Miller

Actor Peter Miller, who portrayed Moran, one of the crewmen who, with Leslie Nielsen, Warren Stevens and Jack Kelly, ventured to the "Forbidden Planet," has died of cancer. He was 73. In the 1950s, Miller won small parts in big films including "Rebel Without A Cause," "The Blackboard Jungle," and "Tea And Sympathy." His B-movie credits include "A Strange Adventure" with Marla English, Jan Merlin and Nick Adams, and "The Delinquents," which was the 1957 directorial debut of Robert Altman.
