STAKKMASTERS
Bill Mejia's infamous (in South Jersey, at least) short film STAKKMASTERS makes its home video debut after its controversial - and to date, only - public screening.

Secretly shot in college housing, this 16mm, off-the-wall, pro-hemp superhero spoof screened once publicly at a south jersey college one year ago, and students are still buzzing.

After shutting down the evil Dracuslut's pre-school prostitution ring, the Stakkmasters must once again engage their foe in battle after she kidnaps the virgin prude Snow Korn, with the hopes of turning her into her latest underground porn star!

GHOST LAKE
Jay Woelfel updates us about GHOST LAKE.
I know many of you have been asking and now I have an answer to the question: When will Ghost Lake be released?
In the United States the date is June 14, 2004.  Here is the link to the distributor, though when I checked it the new release section was being updated.
You can contact them with questions, in particular you might ask them what extras will be included on the DVD as that might help them decide to actually put extras on it.  Though obviously June is a long ways off...  Still, I'd check with them from time to time to see as the date sticks of slides and ask them what extras will be on the DVD.
www.velocityhomeentertainment.com

In the meantime, the film has already been released in Spain.  The company has a website you can find pretty easily by searching for the company it's called SAV Ghost Lake and it should come up pretty quickly.
You can order a copy from them if you can read Spanish.  It has my commentary track on it and is widescreen and well as dubbed and in English, too.   Remember though, you'd need a multiregion player to be able to watch it.
The film will be released December 6th in England (UK) the company there is called THIRD MILLENNIUM -- do a  search with that the title and you'll find it.  The UK edition seems to be a no-frills edition, though.
There are 20 countries in all that will be releasing the film so far.

OBITS

FARWELL, COMMANDER CORRY

ED KEMMER, who played Commander Buzz Corry on the live 1950's TV show SPACE PATROL, paased away November 11 a few days after having a stroke. He was 83.
ED Kemmer also appeared in a pair of cult-horror classics, Giant From the Unknown and Earth vs. the Spider. Kemmer became equally well known as a TV soap opera star, appearing for 20 years in daytime dramas, such as"Edge of Night." Fran Sharon was also in the cast. The two fell in love and were married.
In addition to his soap opera work, he appeared in more than 50 television programs including "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," "Science Fiction Theater," "Gunsmoke," "Sugarfoot'" "77 Sunset Strip," "Wanted: Dead or Alive," "Men Into Space," "Perry Mason," "The Rebel," "Combat" and many others. He appeared in one of the classic "Twilight Zone" episodes, "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet," playing a pilot who tries to calm William Shatner after the latter sees a gremlin sabotaging their plane.

But it was his portrayal of Buzz Corry that influenced a generation. "Space Patrol" was a smash success and mass merchandising ensued. Kemmer's likeness appeared on cereal boxes, coloring books, trading cards, buttons, comics and more.

The TV space hero was a real life hero. He flew 47 missions as a fighter pilot in World War II. Shot down on his 47th mission, he was captured, later to escape from the German prisoner of war camp that served as the inspiration for "The Great Escape." He was recaptured and spent the duration as a prisoner.
Following the war, Kemmer used the benefits of the G.I. Bill to attend the College of Theater Arts at the Pasadena Playhouse. It was fellow actor and future "Space Patrol" castmate Lyn Osborn who contacted Kemmer about auditioning for the part of Buzz Corry. Kemmer impressed the producers and won the role.
He and Osborn were paid $8.00 per show. Other cast members received $5.00. Their salaries were raised when the show began airing nationwide on ABC.
Television was in its infancy, before the advent of videotape, and the show was performed live. Quite a number of episodes survive as kinescopes.

Kemmer claimed he was more often recognized on the street for his soap opera roles than he was as Commander Buzz Corry.
Excerpted in part from The Astounding B Monster (Marty Bauman)

Editor's Note: Ed Kemmer was a very courteous man, and appreciated his fans. I had hoped to have him at this year's Friends of Old Time Radio Convention (SPACE PATROL was also a ABC Radio program at the height of its sucess). Unfortunately, Mr. Kemmer was unable to attend, as he was not going to be in town during the convention. He will be missed by many, including those not old enough to have seen SPACE PATROL during it's original run.
Gene Rodenberry had cited SPACE PATROL as part of his inspiration for STAR TREK.

HARRY LAMPERT, co-creator of DC Comics superhero 'The Flash,' dies at 88

Harry Lampert, the illustrator who created the DC Comics superhero 'The Flash' and later became known for his instructional books on bridge, died Saturday. He was 88. Lampert, who had been suffering from cancer, died at Boca Raton Community Hospital, according to his family.
He began drawing professionally at 16, inking cartoons at Fleischer Studios in New York for characters such as Popeye, Betty Boop and KoKo the Clown.
Six years later, Lampert co-created the original Jay Garrick Flash for DC Comic's "Flash Comics #1" in 1940, collaborating with writer Gardner Fox. The first-edition featuring the physics-defying superhero has become a classic among comic book collectors.
"He based it on the character in mythology (Hermes) ... the wings on his feet," said daughter Karen Lampert Akavan. "He had no idea how big it would be." Lampert received a steady stream of fan mail and requests for his early 'Flash' drawings. But his favorite illustrations were gag cartoons, which appeared in publications including Time, Esquire, The New York Times, Saturday Evening Post and Saturday Review.
"Up to the last week he was redrawing 'The Flash' and selling it to people," his daughter said.

Lampert spent much of his life as a cartoonist, and he taught at the New York School of Visual Arts. He also started an advertising agency in New York, which won several awards, including The Golden Lion at Cannes. After retiring in Florida, Lampert was known as an avid bridge player. He became president of the American Bridge Teachers Association, and wrote several books on the subject including "The Fun Way to Serious Bridge," largely considered a bible of the game.
Besides his daughter, Lampert is survived by his wife, Adele Lampert; and two grandsons.
