Well, Teen In Peril is finally gearing up for a new production to begin filming late this summer. The working title is now "Die Old Man!". Lovely don't you think? More news on this feature in upcoming weeks. Jeez! I'm knee deep in scripts. Anyone want to bankroll 5 Indie Horror/Art films, or help me knock off a couple of banks?

Starting very soon is a short called "The Creeper" being produced by Shane & Calu Morton. I've been asked to lend a eye to this project, but no word from the Morton camp on casting. They will be adding "The Creeper" to their Chiller Party Tape that will be available around Halloween 2002.

Pipedreams Entertainment founder John Bowker recently finished a preliminary edit of his new Sub Rosa release HOUSEBOUND and says the movie is running a little short. With the help of Tim Ritter, Bowker will be adding new scenes to lengthen the pacing. "There's a lot of action the the third act and it went by faster than I thought it would."

ANASTASIA SALKIND will make her film debut this fall in THE ROAD TO BOLLYWOOD, a comedy feature being co-directed by Edward Jordon and Donald Farmer. Though Anastasia is still an unknown in the film business, the same can't be said for some of her famous relatives.

Anatasia is daughter of legendary film producer Ilya Salkind, whose credits include the SUPERMAN film series with Christopher Reeve, the Christopher Lee/Oliver Reed version of THE THREE MUSKETEERS, and the stylish Richard Burton/Raquel Welch thriller BLUEBEARD. Her paternal grandfather was the late Alexander Salkind, whose producing credits include the Orson Welles classic THE TRIAL, and her maternal grandfather was the late James T. Aubrey, former president of MGM and producer of the Peter Fonda sci-fi sequel FUTUREWORLD.

Anastasia will be sharing the screen in THE ROAD TO BOLLYWOOD with her mother, actress Skye Aubrey - whose credits include two BATMAN episodes, the cult TV movie THE PHANTOM OF HOLLYWOOD, and director Blake Edwards' THE CAREY TREATMENT.

Though THE ROAD TO BOLLYWOOD won't be screened til early 2003, Edward Jordon's screenplay has been slowly gathering heat. The script won second place in Francis Ford Coppola's ZOETROPE SCREENPLAY COMPETITION, and Producer Renee Missel (who was Executive Producer of the Jodie Foster film NELL) has praised Jordon's screenplay as "very camp and hilarious!"

In other news, Donald Farmer's martial arts film THE STRIKE debuted last week on video and DVD from MTI Video's new "Replay" label (www.mtivideo.com). Farmer explains, "This is my first movie to be picked up nationwide by the entire Blockbuster Video and Hollywood Video chains, so finally one of my movies is going to be easy for people to find! My last movie, AN EROTIC VAMPIRE IN PARIS, has been showing up in the Best Buy and Tower Video chains, but that's nothing compared to the kind of wide release that THE STRIKE is getting."

Co-starring in THE STRIKE are George Stover (from John Water's DESPERATE LIVING and FEMALE TROUBLE), Jenny Wallace (from Retro Media's new release HOOKERS IN A HAUNTED HOUSE), and Autumn Vena (from Farmer's 2000 releases BLOOD AND HONOR and BATTLE FOR GLORY). "Autumn plays "Iris," a herion-addicted hooker being held prisoner in a Chinese gangster's bordello," Farmer explains. "I met Autumn at a Gwar concert where she was being eaten onstage by a giant slug," Farmer says, "so I thought she might like this part."

Joining Autumn in the film's bordello scenes is Atlanta actress Stephanie Sinclair. For serious film connoisseurs, shots from Sinclair's two nude scenes in THE STRIKE were just posted at www.mrskin.com.

WIZARD VIDEO RESURRECTED, TEMPE-STYLE!

Fans who were VCR-equipped in the early '80s will no doubt remember the late, great Wizard Video label which first brought classics like I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, ZOMBIE, BLOOD FEAST and SNUFF to home video along with compilations such as THE BEST OF SEX & VIOLENCE (whose cover sported a young Brinke Stevens!).

What many fans may not know is that Wizard was the brainchild of Charles Band who would later found Full Moon Pictures! When J.R. Bookwalter began working with Full Moon in late 1997, he kept pushing for Band to revive the Wizard line and get back to his underground roots.

Well get ready, because Wizard is back! And Tempe is there.

This November, the new Wizard Video will be launched with a re-release of our 1989 film SKINNED ALIVE. While the packaging may be similar (visit http://www.tempefanclub.com for a peek), the VHS & DVD versions from Wizard will only include the "Cut to the Bone" making-of featurette -- we will continue to offer the Special Edition DVD (and also our VHS, until that format is sold out). Wizard's release will also feature the same remastered print and 5.1 remix. Expect the title to finally hit retail video store shelves in large quantities!

Bookwalter has also licensed three other Tempe films to Wizard: OZONE, BLOODLETTING and GHOUL SCHOOL. Now this is where things get fuzzy, because the Wizard releases of these titles will come with new titles and new cover art. "I'm not particularly fond of the idea," admits Bookwalter, "but the end result is that a lot more people will find these movies. I'm also told to expect some of these to air on pay-per-view which will be a trip!"

The Tempe features are expected to roll out from Wizard Video every two months and if the first four are successful, expect the rest of the Tempe library to follow. Tempe continues to retain all Special Edition DVD rights to the titles (see below), but will also offer limited quantities of the Wizard versions for sale online when they are available.

..BUT WHAT ABOUT TEMPE DVD?

On July 6, 2002 we announced the BLOODLETTING Remastered Special Edition DVD and VHS with a September 24 street date. In the interim, the aforementioned Wizard deal was inked which changed our plans a bit. Tempe will no longer offer VHS versions of our new releases, concentrating strictly on Special Edition DVDs. The fans have spoken and the message is clear: VHS is dead!

The BLOODLETTING DVD was postponed shortly after the announcement -- when the release schedule for Wizard Video is worked out, we'll have a firmer date. But for now, expect that our long-awaited OZONE Remastered Special Edition DVD will jump ahead in January, 2003. J.R. Bookwalter is diving into the 5.1 remix next week and advance word on both remastered films is the fans will be pleasantly surprised with the results!

Please note that all Tempe DVDs will be released under the films' original title and we are still committed to bringing you the biggest and best special edition DVDs possible! Look for details on the OZONE and BLOODLETTING releases soon...

We are a new production company called Insane-O-Rame Productions. We are currently finishing up our first feature entitled " Strange Things Happen at Sundown" it will be a 2 hour movie shot on DV. You can visit our website for some production details at HTTP:// www.insane-o-rama.com we are a completely self contained production company, we do all our own, writing, filming, editing, music and sound effects and are very excited about our first release. We will be seeking distribution upon completion so if you have any info you can share it would be much appreciated.

Strange Things Happen at Sundown is the story of vampires run amuck in New York City. There's a group of low level mobsters with fangs , there's an age-old vampire who does mob hits for money, there's a pair of vampire lovers on the run . Throw in a born again Christian trying to bring one of the vampires over to her side, an Italian girl from Brooklyn bitten by vampires and left to endure an agonizing three-day turn and a psychotic four-hundred year old blood-sucking housewife with a fetish for cleanliness and virgin girls. All of them are being hunted by a nefarious vinyl clad woman whose intentions are mysterious and powers are unmatched. . .

As we start out this month, we have shot eight days on Rectuma, and so far so good. So good, in fact, that I have actually started editing it as we go. We have about 20 minutes of edited footage so far and I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am with it all. We made some good choices with our actors for this one. Not that we haven't had good actors in the past (ok. let's forget Buford's Beach Bunnies), but not since Color-Blinded, have I been as pleased with the talents of our performers. Just about everyone involved has been giving their all and we couldn't be happier. We've been trying to get in at least one day of shooting a week, but naturally that isn't always the case. The month of August will probably put us behind, as there will be about two weeks where we won't be able to film anything at all. I'll be jumping between Orange County and Chicago, shooting a video for Nissan, and since gigs like that are paying the bills, we must take them as they come along.

Anyway, we shot at Bronson's Cave with David Chan and J. Michael Raye for a location that is supposed to represent Afghanistan. Looks pretty authentic to me. I got the chills shooting there because of all the history surrounding that place. For those of you who aren't aware, Bronson's Cave is located in Griffith Park in Hollywood and has been used and overused in movies since the 50s. It was location to "The Searchers" with John Wayne and Natalie Wood, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Robot Monster, Woody Allen's Sleeper, the entrance to the Batcave in the 60's T.V. show, numerous episodes of The Wild Wild West, and now…Rectuma. Sigh.

Carl Hartel is now officially Mr. Rectuma. He had designed a Rectuma creature worthy of Stan Winston (well, maybe Rick Baker anyway). We filmed with the actual Rectuma monster a couple of weeks ago and it takes direction very well. Carl will continue to "tweak" it throughout production. I told him it needs more hair and pimples. Anyway, by the time we're ready to shoot the "money" shots, i.e. close ups against the blue screen, it should have a perfect pimple to hair ratio.

I guess that's about all the fun news for this month. Maybe within the next few months, I'll have a chance to cut a Rectuma trailer and have it up here on the website, replacing the 1 minute teaser which already resides here.

PREMUTOS

Shock-O-Rama Cinema is pleased to announce that one of the most eagerly anticipated horror films in recent times is poised for a July 30, 2002 release on VHS and Special Edition DVD. Premutos: Lord of the Living Dead - the splatter masterpiece from German bad-boy director Olaf Ittenbach (Burning Moon, Legion of the Dead) - is experiencing its long-awaited U.S. home video premiere, and fans of the renowned director and those primed by reports of Premutos' extreme gore quotient are ready to embrace this graphic and outrageous epic. Premutos was the first fallen angel, before Lucifer, and the perpetrator of death and destruction throughout the ages. Now this "lord of the living dead" is poised for resurrection, and no-one will be able to stop the bloody onslaught as he and his flesh-starved minions prepare for the ultimate showdown with a group of unsuspecting humans. The body count is high and the carnage is spectacular as Olaf Ittenbach delivers the gore goods in heaping helpings - he even throws in a tank for a bit of supreme mayhem! See the July issue of "Fangoria" for more news on Ittenbach and Premutos.

The Collector's Edition DVD will feature the English-dubbed version of Premutos, the original German-language version, and a 60-minute "making of" documentary that takes you deep inside the crimson-soaked production.

ZOMBIE DOOM

Infamous German horror filmmaker Andreas Schnaas (Demonium, Anthropophagous 2000) continues the saga of Karl the Butcher and his scion in the extreme and disturbing gore-laden epic Zombie Doom (a.k.a. Violent Shit III) - an intense, spine-ripping follow-up to his Violent Shit I and Violent Shit II. When a shipwreck deposits three men on a remote island, they quickly discover it is lorded over by the bloodthirsty mad-man Karl the Butcher Jr. - the "Meister," his metal-masked army of killers, and the abominable Dr. Senius who has a sweet-tooth for intrusive surgical experiments. The imprisoned threesome attempt escape from this gruesome hell-on-earth only to flee head-first into a legion of flesh-eating zombies and a team of ninja warriors that plots the destruction of the Meister and his depraved world.

Zombie Doom is experiencing its first-ever release on U.S. home video and DVD on July 30. The Special Edition DVD will include both the German-language and the English-dubbed versions of this notorious gore epic as well as the early Andreas Schnaas splatter film Zombie 90.

DEMONESS

Shock-O-Rama Cinema is preparing Demoness for re-release in September 2002. Written and directed by Glynn Beard, this bloody contemporary shocker employs the ancient Aztec folk legend of La Llorona (pronounced "Lah-yoh-roh-nah") - a.k.a. The Crier - a monstrous female spirit seeking vengeance from beyond the grave. A young man visits an old witch in the dead of night hoping her powers can bring back a girlfriend who has just left him. The witch obliges, giving him a small bottle of magical liquid - tears from La Llorona herself - that magically reunite the couple…and unleashes the hideous demoness! What ensues at a party in celebration of the unnatural reunion is the grisly death of the unsuspecting partygoers, and one final horrifying revelation.

The Demoness Special Edition DVD will feature insightful audio commentary by director Beard and key production personnel; the 30-minute award-winning horror short Y2K: Shutdown Detected co-created by John Gonzales (co-producer of Demoness), Slava Siderman, and Trent Shumway; a 50-minute Y2K "making of"; and trailers for the films.

ROCK'N'ROLL FRANKENSTEIN

Prepare yourself for the most outrageous resuscitation of the Mary Shelley classic ever as Brian O'Hara's controversial and far-from-pc horror comedy Rock'n'Roll Frankenstein lurches ever closer to its September 2002 release date. Banned from the IFFM (Independent Feature Film Market) and The New York Underground Film Festival, Rock'n'Roll Frankenstein has both shocked and delighted audiences around the world with its delirious mix of high camp, raunchy comedy, and Frankenstein movies iconography. It's John waters meets Mel Brooks meets Paul Morrissey as necrophiliac surgeon Dr. Frankie Stein and his cigar-chomping, music agent uncle build what they hope will be a rock'n'roll superstar from the body parts of famous dead rockers. With the help of a drug-addled roadie who unearths and collects the various limbs and organs, a rockin' monster is created - part Jimi Hendrix, Sid Vicious, Elvis, Keith Moon, Jim Morrison…and Liberace!?! Equipped with the head of Elvis and a hip-swiveling body primed for rock stardom and fawning female groupies, it's unfortunate that the "King," as he is affectionately called, sports the "member" of Liberace. A clash of sexual identities ensues as the King's brain and love tool vie for control of this hapless and confused creation…and, of course, people must die.

The Rock'n'Roll Frankenstein will be released on VHS and DVD in a R rated version as well as an Uncut Collector's Edition. The DVD uncut version will include colorful audio commentary by writer/director O'Hara, star Graig Guggenheim ("King"), co-star Hiram Segarra ("Izzy" the roadie), and Director of Photography Jay Hillman; original music videos from the film; a "behind-the-scenes" making of with commentary; and a theatrical trailer.

THE PURGATORY BLUES

EI Independent Cinema's Zachary Snygg (In the Hood, Blood Bullets Buffoons) is finishing up post-production on his bizarro dark horror comedy co-starring 'B' movie legends Debbie Rochon and Julie Strain. The Purgatory Blues is the story of a drug addict who dies and goes to hell, is given a reprieve by Satan herself (Julie Strain) and sent back to earth with the stipulation that he corrupt one person within 24 hours, and his resulting race against the clock to save his own soul at the cost of another. Snygg is best known for such hyper-real comedies as Blood Bullets Buffoons, In the Hood, Kudos for Pseudo-Intellectuals, and The Bloody Video Horror That Made Me Puke on My Aunt Gertrude; thus The Purgatory Blues marks a step in a different direction for the New Jersey filmmaker though visually the new film possesses many of the same stylistic flourishes that have graced his past projects, thanks to the work of his long-time cinematographer and even longer-time brother, Spencer Snygg.

The Purgatory Blues is scheduled for an early 2003 release on Shock-O-Rama.

SHOCK-O IN PRODUCTION

Shock-O-Rama Cinema is busily planning a schedule that will see the horror label produce several unique and outrageous horror films over the next couple years, according to Michael Raso, president of ei Independent Cinema - the marketing and distribution company behind Shock-O-Rama Cinema as well as Seduction Cinema, Retro Seduction Cinema, and Video Outlaw. "Shock-O-Rama Cinema is ready to follow the path Seduction Cinema took two years ago when it began producing its own movies on a consistent basis. That has proven to be very successful for Seduction Cinema, and we are confident that Shock-O-Rama can match and exceed that level of success in the coming months and years. All of us at Shock-O are huge horror fans, so, needless to say, we are thrilled to be moving towards creation and production."

SKIN CRAWL

Shock-O-Rama Cinema's premiere in-house production is the creepy and disturbing Skin Crawl - written by Justin Wingenfeld with him at the directorial helm. Skin Crawl details a marriage on the rocks, an unspeakable act of pre-meditated, cold-blooded violence, and a generations-old curse that seeks horrific retribution. Currently shooting in New Jersey and New York, the film stars Debbie Rochon, Julian Wells, Kevin Shinnick, Armande, and thousands of extras - the extras being a sizeable army of bugs and various crawling critters that will be necessary to bring the macabre story to life, literally and figuratively! Is writer/director Wingenfeld up to the task of controlling the thousands of extras? "At least we don't have to worry about feeding THESE extras!" Wingenfeld says with a chuckle. "But no doubt it will be a challenge wrangling the bugs, and keeping them happy, and making sure they don't infest the locations we'll be shooting in. In trying to tell a story, you attempt to use the elements you have given yourself to work with to their best effect, and that's what I hope to do with these insects because they are the integral part of the story. So I do look forward to the bug days…Actually, I can see myself on the set yelling to them, 'you need to give me more ick, guys, more ick!' " Keep your feelers peeled for more news on Skin Crawl as it squirms further into production.

"The Dinner" Wraps!

Over the weekend of July 13-14, MINDSCAPE PICTURES wrapped production on the short, silent movie "The Dinner." Starring Tina Krause (Witchhouse 3, Titanic 2000), Jennifer Irizarry, (Here Comes Your Man), Christopher Soroka, (R.L. Stine's Haunted Lighthouse) and Paul Sarkis, (Working Stiff) "The Dinner" is an experimental picture that follows the events of a dinner party during which the conversation between two friendly couples is unheard, the looks and actions of the diners instead telling the real story. Two members of this dinner party appear to be having an affair, but it is difficult to discern which of the attendees are involved, and whether or not the others at the party know about the infidelity.

Shooting took place in Worcester, Massachusetts and was made considerably easy due to the production's lack of sound requirements. As can be seen in stills taken from the movie, the visual aspect of the story is unique, caught somewhere between film and video. "The Dinner" is slated for release on the forthcoming MINDSCAPE PICTURES short-film compilation "Bent: Volume 3."

"Again" Again!

After successfully re-shooting "Time Heals All Wounds" back in late June/early July, writer/director Jason Santo decided to review some of his other, older movies to see if there were other productions that could use some reworking. A prime candidate turned out to be the short "Again," a "Twilight Zone"-like tale about a man who simply cannot shake a bout of Déjà vu which turns out to be a premonition about dangerous things to come. The original version of "Again" was riddled with sound problems, and a rushed production schedule resulted in hampered performances and direction. With this newer version it is hoped that the strong story of "Again" will get the treatment it originally deserved. Starring Frank Parker in the lead role of Jack - the same part Parker played in the original version of the movie - "Again" also stars MINDSCAPE PICTURES vet Kathy Nestor (In a Sky With No Angels) as well as two newcomers, Christian Cibotti and Amy Martin. Behind the scenes, handling the camera is writer/director Santo, while recent B.U. Film School graduate Mary Antinozzi has taken charge of sound. MINDSCAPE PICTURES regular Sheri Carter is acting as script supervisor. The two-day shoot began Sunday, August 4 and will finish on Friday, August 9.

Setting the Score Straight!

MINDSCAPE PICTURES is proud to announce several pictures are now moving through the post-production process thanks to the efforts of several musicians working hard to provide music for recently edited/soon-to-be-edited productions.

Here Comes Your Score!

After months of sitting on deck for editing, the short movie "Here Comes Your Man" has moved a bit closer to being finished. Massachusetts-based musician Mike Perry has been selected to provide the music for the movie that was shot during the spring of 2002, and is considered one of MINDSCAPE PICTURES' most eagerly anticipated works. The experimental narrative tale of a man who maliciously spreads the HIV virus to the women he seduces, "Here Comes Your Man" will feature two new songs written specifically for the movie by Perry, including the bubblegum pop title track.

Perry is an Arlington, Massachusetts native who has acted as a kind of one-man-band on his five CD releases. Sounding one minute like Soundgarden, and the next like The Beatles, his wildly diverse styles and intuitive knowledge of music made him a perfect fit for the wild mood changes in "Here Comes Your Man."

"Here Comes Your Man" is scheduled to be released on "Bent: Volume 2" at some point late this year.

"Marisa" Begins Life Anew!

Thanks to Alabama-based, England-born composer Annie Brunson, Jason Santo's acclaimed short picture "Marisa" has a new lease on life. Brunson - who also scored MINDSCAPE PICTURES recently completed movie "In a Sky With No Angels" - spent the past two months working and reworking music for this story about a woman's decent into madness after her dream of love crumbles into a nightmare. Annie's new score allows "Marisa" to be released on MINDSCAPE PICTURES first feature-length production "Bent," a short-film compilation that will feature the movies "His Life," "Marisa" and the aforementioned "In a Sky With No Angels."

"Haunted" Gets Creepy!

Meanwhile in Sweden, composer David Clausson has already begun work on the now in-editing horror picture "Haunted." Clausson - a composer applauded for his work on independent horror movies such as Timberwolf Entertainment's "Summer's End: The Legend of Samhain" and "Dark Woods" - has created a rich, textured and chilling sound for this story about a group of murder/kidnappers who discover their hideout is haunted by something very dangerous. "Haunted" is nearing completion of its rough cut and will see release later this year/early next on the previously-mentioned "Bent: Volume 2."
