February 19, 2002

In addition to starting pro-production of 3 upcoming projects: BABY FARM, DAY FOR NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, and PADDING: A MOTION PICTURE, Dept 13 just launched a new adult section featuring Melissa Wolf and a few others.

A last-minute shoot was scheduled with Marley Murphy, yesterday, for the video Playtime with Marley. The day began at 12pm with a photo shoot by Gregg Coyle of Ariel Productions. Video rolled at 2pm and wrapped at 7pm. Some very exciting new material was recorded and will be of particular interest to Marley fans everywhere.

"It's a first for Marley," say Roman Tyler. "I was hired to develop a mature section for DEPT.13, and Playtime with Marley is the flagship title."

Herb Henderson, newly promoted executive producer at DEPT.13 says that a mature section is a wise way to expand the DEPT.13 catalog. "It allows us to satisfy a very popular market with the same level of quality we bring to our mystery and horror sections and Roman is the man for the job. Fans of Marley Murphy and Melissa Wolf should be very happy with the new products."

Herb went on to say that in addition to producing original material, Roman will be responsible for licensing and repackaging some of the girls' library titles, as well. "A Glori-Anne Gilbert title is in development for production in late May," says Roman, a devious grin stretched across his face. "It's loaded to the gills with guest stars and should be quite a show."

From the Wicked Pixel newsletter:

SAVAGE HARVEST 2 is in the final stages of being written. This sequel may begin shooting as soon as this coming fall. Eric Stanze, who wrote and directed the original SAVAGE HARVEST, will executive produce this project and play a leading acting part. Jason Christ will be the writer/director of this sequel to the popular indie gore flick. Jason Christ directed the award-winning short music film, CURVEBALL: PILE OF JUNK, which can be found on the Wicked Pixel Cinema short films compilation, THE SEVERED HEAD NETWORK. Also, Jason Christ played a leading role in Eric Stanze's ICE FROM THE SUN. Years ago, Jason began his directing career with a youth drama entitled THE ROAD AHEAD. This first feature by Jason Christ is now finally available on home video. To see how it all began for Jason Christ, pick up a copy through b-movie.com:

Also nearing a finished first draft is Eric Stanze's screenplay of TEMPEST OF THE DAWN. Stanze will be the director and editor on this film. The story is about demonic possession spreading throughout the world, swiftly eroding mankind's dominance on this planet. No production schedule has yet been established.

As executive producer, Eric Stanze supervised the production of THE CHRISTMAS SEASON MASSACRE, a slasher/comedy directed by Jeremy Wallace for Sub Rosa Extreme. Sub Rosa Extreme is a line of exploitation movies and surreal horror flicks presented by Stanze and his partner-in-crime, Ron Bonk. THE CHRISTMAS SEASON MASSACRE stars DJ Vivona, Jason Christ, Michael Hill, Chris Belt, Joy Payne, and Eric Stanze. This ultra-gory and off-the-wall splatter-fest is now available through Sub Rosa Studios:

Jeremy Wallace took a break for about two minutes after directing THE CHRISTMAS SEASON MASSACRE, and then he began production on his second feature. The working title is THE UNDERTOW. This movie is about a strange, back-woods town with some terrifying secrets. A group of friends on a float trip enter this town and soon find themselves in a surreal and deadly situation. Stanze is again executive producer for this gory, intense, and atmospheric movie. Chris Belt is this project's producer. John Specht is set to create the splashy special effects. The project is currently in the process of casting the actors. There are unconfirmed rumors of leading roles being played by Emily Haack, Jason Christ, Joseph Palermo, and Todd Tevlin. Shooting will begin this summer. The movie should be released near the beginning of 2003.

Personal favorite DIRTY COP, NO DONUT, will be screening along with SCARY TALES, at the Palm Beach Gardens Independent Film Festival.

Showtimes are as follows:

Scary Tales:

Friday, March 8th at 5:00 PM
Saturday, March 9th at 8:30 PM
Sunday, March 10th at 3:30 PM

Dirty Cop No Donut:

Also, orders are being taken for SCARY TALES on the Sub Rosa website. A second installment will soon see production titled SCARY TALES: THE RETURN OF MR. LONGFELLOW. The budget is projected to be roughly $30,000.

Here's the plot synopsis taken from the official website:

One month later. Mr. Longfellow (Joel D. Wynkoop) has relocated from his job placement center to a used car delearship. Along with his demented partner, Wesley (George Randol), he spins three tales of terror to Don Liefert (Jason Daly), serial killer on the lam. It seems Don has picked the wrong place of business to dump a car stolen from his latest victim. This is the first of many twists in this connecting thread, which plays like "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer" crossed with a David Lynch film.

From Dr. Squid's Newsletter:

Ron (Deadly Scavengers) Ford reports that principle photography on the coolest-damned-titled b-movie, THE CRAWLING BRAIN, wrapped up on January 24. Ron says, "It was a whirlwind seven day shoot, but all went smoothly and the production wrapped on-schedule and under budget. Everybody seemed sad that it was over, but also looked confident that they had created something special." The Crawling Brain's cast includes Randal Malone (MTV's "Singled Out"), and silent screen legend Anita Page (While the City Sleeps), as well as scream queen Stephanie Beaton (The Evilmaker).

Ron adds, "The Crawling Brain came to me as a title many years ago. Where it came from, I don't know, but to me it was the quintessential homage to the sci-fi/horror movies of the 1950s and 60s which so enthralled me as a child. Jeff Leroy, my favorite DP, was thankfully free to shoot the picture."

Effects were by Chris Bergschneider, who has created effects for a great many Full Moon pictures as well most of David DeCoteau's Rapid Heart Productions.

Ron let us in on a little tidbit of super-cool trivia: "By the way, the brain itself was made from a mold of the actual brain creature from the 1960s horror classic, Fiend Without a Face."

Dr. Squid also says that editing is still moving ahead on his own picture, UNDERBELLY.

Production has wrapped just prior to the New Year on Seduction Cinema’s wildest erotic horror film yet, The Erotic Experiments of Dr. Jekyll, based upon the classic Stevenson story, and the results could not have been more electrifying. Written by Bruce G. Hallenbeck, directed by Tony Marsiglia (SC’s soon-to-be-released The Witches of Sappho Salon), and shot in and around Los Angeles, … The Erotic Experiments of Dr. Jekyll stars beautiful SC newcomer Julian Wells (The Seduction of Misty Mundae, Who Wants to be an Erotic Billionaire) as the titular doctor with a sexually insatiable alter ego. Julian’s co-stars include the delectable Misty Mundae (Play-Mate of the Apes, Mummy Raider) and the hot-blooded Ruby LaRocca (The Erotic Mirror, Erotic Survivor), and you can count on this dynamic trio to make the most of a potion that turns ordinary women into panting, rampaging lesbian “beasts.”

Initially, … The Erotic Experiments of Dr. Jekyll was to be cast with all Los Angeles talent. However, SC executive producer Michael Beckerman decided to go with his gut instincts and fly Julian, Misty, and Ruby out to the LA set. The three New Jersey-based actresses had literally burned up the screen in their first picture together, the upcoming The Seduction of Misty Mundae, so it seemed only natural to Beckerman that they be teamed up again…and have the erotic envelope pushed even further. And director Marsiglia couldn’t agree more. “Julian, Ruby, and Misty are absolutely stunning and talented women who know how to make a scene sizzle, and I was thrilled to work with them. Dr. Jekyll had a very intense and very condensed shooting schedule, basically no days off, and the girls were just so professional and so “on” all the time. They were awesome and, it goes without saying, so unbelievably hot!”

Seduction Cinema began production in January 2002 on the pilot episode for an original thirteen part series proposed for cable broadcast, with a home video release to follow. The series is titled Misty Mundae College Girl, and will star Misty Mundae as a young woman experiencing the daily educational travails and erotic rigors of higher learning. The pilot, and each subsequent episode of College Girl, will run approximately one hour long and co-star SC actresses such as Darian Caine, Julian Wells, and Ruby LaRocca and Katie Jordon in recurring roles, as well as several exciting guest stars. Interviewed while finalizing the script for the pilot episode, the always affable and low-key Beckerman was clearly excited about this new venture. “This is a unique and challenging project for Seduction Cinema in terms of us spreading our wings and actively pursuing cable broadcast, and in terms of us and our talent committing to a long-term production schedule. But we are so excited about College Girl because it gives us the opportunity to create some really interesting characters and develop a strong and sustained storyline, which is something that we might not always have the luxury of doing when working on a 90 minute feature. And we get to work with all our regulars, cast and crew, which is always a real treat.” When pressed about details of the pilot and various future episodes, Beckerman revealed little at this point, but he did guarantee the entire series will showcase the SC signature style of hot lesbian eroticism and inspired silliness.

In the final stages of post-production is SC’s spoof of the popular prime-time game show, “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” In John Bacchus’ Who Wants to be an Erotic Billionaire, contestants have the opportunity to become filthy rich beyond their wildest dreams, but ultimately discover during the course of the game that their “wildest dreams” include less about the filthy money and more about the hot lesbian lovemaking, which is exactly what they win when nine multiple orgasm – sorry, multiple choice - questions are answered correctly.

Who Wants to be an Erotic Billionaire is hosted by everyone’s favorite TV personality, the indefatigable Remis Phildin, here played by the hot-n-sexy Julian Wells (The Seduction of Misty Mundae) who proves without a doubt that she is, by far, the host with the most. And just wait until you see her “most,” ’cause it’s something to behold. Erotic Billionaire also showcases knockout SC first-timers Allison S, Bethany Lott, and Vivica Taylor as contestants who must answer increasingly difficult questions (wink, wink) in their quest to have a shot at disrobing, and then ravishing, Erotic Billionaire’s lovely model/co-hostess Bambi…oh, and winning a billion dollars, too. It’s a game of high drama… nerve-racking suspense…and uninhibited seduction where the stakes are high, and the erotica quotient even higher. Who Wants to be an Erotic Billionaire will be available in April.

From Mark Pirro:

Our semi-official release date for the Polish Vampire and Queerwolf DVDs will be the end of May, beginning of June. I’ll probably have a more accurate date next month.

The official start of pre-production for “Rectuma” grows ever closer. The screenplay is taking shape and I’m even beginning to think it’s funny in many places (compared to earlier lame drafts). We’re starting to gather up talented folk to contribute their skills to this latest Pirromount epic. Maybe some of you can help out. One person we’re looking for is a master of prosthetics. We need him or her to construct a nice pliable cushy ass. It needs to be moveable and easy to operate, maybe like a giant beanbag puppet. It will have big blue eyes on each cheek. Rectuma will be a combination of prosthetics, computer graphics and (gasp) a real human ass. My mother is so proud.

Thanks to all of you who have been calling Comedy Central, USA Network and other stations requesting that they run Polish Vampire and/or Queerwolf. They haven’t buckled yet, but keep bugging them. I know it’s beginning to make a small impact, because when anyone from Pirromount speaks to their various programming people, they always appear to be familiar with us. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but if they get enough calls, they may pick these films up again.

Wicked Pixel Cinema and Thrill Ride Media are currently working on the second generation ICE FROM THE SUN DVD. The first release of this film on DVD was a dismal technical failure. Produced by Daniel A. Johnson of Atlantic Coast Digital and replicated through Tom Cheng of United Systems (all incompetent scam artist assholes), the first ICE FROM THE SUN DVD suffered from poor picture quality (the encoding was sloppy) and other technical glitches in its functionality. Amongst other problems, one entire chapter would simply not play on many DVD players.

Wicked Pixel Cinema will set up a program for you to exchange your first generation DVD for this second, improved DVD, free of charge. Keep checking this website for updates.

The new DVD of ICE FROM THE SUN will be loaded with hidden easter eggs. Also, WPC is concocting a plan to give you a freebie or two if you bought the original DVD and now have to go through the hassle of exchanging it... a "thank you" for your patience.

When ICE FROM THE SUN first went to DVD (poorly) it was, at that time, the lowest budget feature movie to be released on that format. Also, it was the first production shot on Super 8 film to be released to DVD (beating NEKROMANTIK by a few months, and THE DEAD NEXT DOOR by a couple of years).

Wicked Pixel Cinema thanks you for your continued interest in ICE FROM THE SUN, as well as your ongoing support of indie filmmaking in general. You fans are the best kind of people in the world... you know that, right?

THE SEVERED HEAD NETWORK, VOL. 2 will be released in 2002. This wacky assembling of cutting-edge and controversial short films had been postponed numerous times, mostly due to producer Eric Stanze's over-packed schedule. Wicked Pixel Cinema was accepting outside shorts submissions up through January 15th, 2002. A big kiss and a warm fuzzy hug to everyone who submitted their short films for consideration! Now the WPC "Severed Head Selection Committee" will screen all the submissions and then vote to decide which shorts will be included on the compilation. Expect to see a few WPC-produced shorts in the lineup as well.

MINDSCAPE PICTURES will open for business, February 1, 2002. An independent movie making company based in Boston, Massachusetts and run by veteran short film producers Jason Santo and Roman Berman, (formerly of Random Foo Pictures and Pangaea Films) MINDSCAPE is announcing its presence on the movie-making scene.

MINDSCAPE PICTURES is the culmination of childhood dreams for Santo and Berman who, when they were children, made videos in their native Massachusetts under that exact name. Over the years, the pair worked under a number of different production groups, but for Santo the idea of MINDSCAPE never completely disappeared. In late 2001, the pair began to toy with the idea of actually incorporating under MINDSCAPE, and subsequent searches found the name to be available.

With MINDSCAPE PICTURES, the pair hope to parlay past successes into distribution deals with independent video distributors while at the same time creating more in-depth, feature-length narratives.

OBITUARIES
Paul Hubschmid aka Paul Christian

Swiss actor Paul Hubschmid, billed as Paul Christian in his U.S.-made films, died in Berlin of a pulmonary embolism. He was 84. Hubschmid is no doubt best known to American movie watchers for his role as Tom Nesbitt in director Eugene Lourie's "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms," which co-starred Kenneth Tobey, Cecil Kellaway and Ray Harryhausen's terrific animated "Beast." Another notable genre-film appearance was a part in the Gordon Douglas-directed "Missing Link" stinker, "Skullduggery," with Burt Reynolds and Susan Clark.

Hubschmid was born in Switzerland and trained as an actor in Austria. He came to Hollywood in 1948. Using the name Paul Christian, he appeared in such films as "Bagdad," opposite Maureen O'Hara, and the Don Seigel-directed "No Time for Flowers." Hubschmid was the veteran of nearly 100 films in all, most of which were made in Europe.
